Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position

The Director of Undergraduate Research leads efforts to integrate opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in mentored research at North Carolina A&T State University, and coordinates student engagement in inquiry-based activities to develop new knowledge and creative works across all disciplines.

The Director collaborates with faculty and student support staff to coordinate internal and external undergraduate research and scholarly activities and to provide opportunities for students to conduct research and creative activities in different environments. The reporting line to the Director includes an Undergraduate Research Program Coordinator.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Division of Research and Economic Development (DORED) is designated as the official unit to administer and manage all sponsored program activities at North Carolina A&T State University. It maintains a balanced and diverse portfolio of basic and applied research programs that are effectively integrated with undergraduate and graduate education at the university. DORED provides services to faculty and student researchers, to current and potential research partners, funding agencies, and economic development agencies. It is headed by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.

Minimum Requirements

- A Ph.D. in a discipline requiring empirical research
- 5 years of strong leadership experience with a research or academic program in an collegiate environment

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with faculty, students and staff
- Experience in a leadership, policy development, and oversight role
- Demonstrated management and supervisory skills, including an ability to mentor professional staff and to achieve timely completion of goals
- Membership in related professional organizations such as CUR
