Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position

To provide leadership to high school student apprentices with the assistance of a head counselor and program coordinator. To ensure the activity schedule is followed.

• Assist in planning all events and help lead those activities

• Ensure all apprentices attend all weekly meetings that are scheduled 

• Provide guidance to apprentices 

• Interpret and enforce all policies, procedures, and rules of the camp 

• Have the skills needed to perform emergency duties as needed

• Ensure all apprentices fulfill the responsibilities of the program

• Meet daily with the head counselor at appointed times for planning and review

• Be able to creatively solve challenges and develop an action plan for problem resolution 
• Assist with providing oversight with nighttime activities 

• Adhere to program rules and regulations

• Complete a written evaluation of the summer program in July 

• Ensure all apprentices are accounted for at all times and transportation is available as needed

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The educational mission of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is to provide students with understanding and skills to address the problems of the agricultural economy and to help those involved in it lead more productive and satisfying lives. Minimum Requirements

• Completed Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and Environmental Sciences or related field; Master’s degree preferred 

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with head counselor, program director, RAP participants, parents, volunteers, faculty and staff 

• Demonstrated ability to supervise RAP participants including but not limited to counseling, and mentoring 

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team with other counselors, faculty and staff 

• Available three (3) days prior to start date of the RAP program and the entire duration of the 4 week program 

• Available to reside with RAP participants at all times (day and night) unless otherwise assigned. 

• Must have valid driver’s license with clean drivers’ record and must clear criminal background check
