North Carolina A & T State University is a public, doctoral/research and 1890 land-grant university that enrolls nearly 11,900 students. The Department of Mathematics is an academic unit within the College of Science and Technology, seeking to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an inviting environment that inspires them to become leaders in their fields and areas of expertise. The Department of Mathematics offers degree programs in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematics Education at the B.S. level, Applied Mathematics at the M.S. level, as well as Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics. The Mathematics faculty have a strong involvement with two interdisciplinary doctoral programs: Energy and Environmental Systems Ph.D. program, and Computational Science and Engineering Ph.D. program. The Department of Mathematics enrolled over 70 undergraduate majors and 21 master’s students in fall 2017 and currently has 23 tenured or tenure-track faculty. In the 2016-2017 academic year, the Department graduated 8 undergraduate students and 11 master’s students. In terms of student credit hours taught, it is, as befits a STEM oriented university, the largest department in the College of Science and Technology.
