Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position

Position requires leadership and interpersonal skills to work with graduate students and undergraduate students to conduct research in the Human Factors Analytics Laboratory and the Cyber-Human Analytics Research for the Internet-of-Things (CHARIOT) Laboratory. This research focuses on smart and connected health, with an emphasis on caregivers of persons with dementia. The position requires strong capabilities in synthesis and creativity to support innovation, and awareness of inclusive research practices with equitable social impacts. The postdoctoral researcher will work with multidisciplinary teams of faculty and students consisting of engineers, psychologists, medical clinicians, and artists. The postdoctoral researcher will coordinate an Inclusive Research Roundtable to address several objectives of the project, and will integrate STEAM-based approaches (STEM + the Arts) to develop persona-based behavioral scripts to understand socio-cultural factors in smart health monitoring and cyber-human systems. A mentoring plan will be implemented to help the postdoctoral researcher develop a competitive career portfolio, including opportunities to publish in scholarly journals, present on campus, attend conferences, and participate on grant proposal teams.

Minimum Requirements

PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Psychology (Human Factors/Ergonomics, Cognitive, Experimental), Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Interdisciplinary background demonstrated through degree type or degrees in different disciplines

Research experience reflecting an interdisciplinary background that combines STEM knowledge (including the Social Sciences) and knowledge of arts and humanities

Candidate with experience in diversity and inclusion with knowledge of under-represented groups, implicit biases, and bias in science and scientific methods are preferred

Experience demonstrated in quantitative methods, data science, multivariate statistical methods, and some knowledge of computational methods

Proficiency in SAS for multivariate analysis and data mining; knowledge of Python and Java are strongly preferred

Experience leading teams and project management

Highly skilled in conducting advanced literature searches and reviews

Knowledge of mixed methods approaches that integrate qualitative methods such as grounded theory analysis of ethnographic data is a plus
